Providing rapid access to any
organization's important records is the mainstay of Gage Van Horn.
When the medium chosen for those records is "paper", our ability
to develop filing, storage and retrieval systems is unequalled in
the industry. We have learned to leverage the eye's ability to
distinguish color along with an industry's ability
to develop viable new products. Years of experience and
experimentation allows us to pass on concepts and designs that
will impact how all your documents are managed, which in turn
impacts your organization's competitiveness, productivity,
profitability and future success.

There are two basic hard copy
filing procedures: "Drop File" procedure and "Reference" file
method. The drop file method consists of using a top
tab folder and literally dropping documents into a folder. This
methodology is identified by the fact that "pulling" documents
from folders takes place less than 35% of the time. Most of the
activity consists of simply "adding" documents to the system. A
reference system, such as might be found in a medical
record department or law office, would use an end tab folder and
be filed in shelving or some other lateral filing device. Here the
criterion for determining a reference application is when
"pulling" the entire folder or an individual document occupies 40%
or more of a file department's time. Regardless of the methodology
you may use, Gage Van Horn stands ready to help with a full line
of filing products.
Our filing systems range from a simple manila, end tab file folder
with sequential color banding to solid color folders to divided
and complex classifile folders. We recognized long ago that there
are numerous ways to skin the proverbial cat. We think we have
them all covered when your goal is to skin the "file cat." Our
complete line of folders, labels accessories and custom options
through our "on-line" store should answer your every need. If not,
give us a call and we will find what you are looking for or
build it!
|
Use the folder color or end
tab color as your first level of color-coding with our colored
folder stock. Available in 10 different colors, Gage Van Horn has
folders made from 11pt colored kraft stocks so the entire body of
the folder is colored both inside and out. We also offer a line of
manila folders where only the exposed ends are colored.
|
 |
 |
Gage Van Horn's manila folders are an
inexpensive solution for storing standard sized documents. Offered
in a variety of sizes and weights, manila folders are available in
letter and legal sizes with thickness of 11pt, 14pt and 18pt
stock. Side tab versions allow you to store documents in lateral
filing systems. Top tab and 2-Tab folders are also available. If
you need to place a large volume of documents in a folder for a
short life cycle, consider the 1 ½" expansion manila folder in
18pt stock.
|
While the majority of our
folder offering is geared to the end-tab lateral filing world, we
understand that a majority of the folder filing in place today is
still in drawers, which need top-tabs to properly identify
documents. We offer a wide range of top-tab options to meet your
needs.
|
 |
The 2Tab folder is a unique
product line exclusively offered by Tab. Each folder in the line
has a full end and top-tab (hence 2Tab) for color-coding the
information in the file. Why is this important? If you have a
central file room using lateral filing equipment, you need an
end-tab folder to properly color-code, but when the file is
outside the central file room in offices with drawer cabinets, a
top-tab folder is needed to properly identify the file. Hence a
2Tab folder is perfect in this case!
We offer a variety of choices in the 2Tab line, from manila, to
manila expansion, to pressboard, to pressboard classification, to
file pocket. Don't find the style you need, just ask; we can
custom design a 2Tab folder to meet your needs!

Most of the time, all you need
is to add accessories to a stock folder. This is easily done in
our on-line store. All you need to do is pick a standard folder
and add any of the following options:
|
 |
- 1" or 2" bonded or Docuclip fasteners
- Pockets (inside or outside the folder)
- Dividers
- Printing (in 1 or 2 colors)
- Labels
- Compucolor strip label
- Filepak strip label
- MaxPak roll labels
- Barcode labels
- Black matrix only (BMO) labels
|
These are all added at our
factory and arrive to you already assembled. All you need to do is
take it out of the box and start filing!
|
 |
These heavyweight folders are our most
durable and longest lasting offering. Designed for files
containing larger documents, pressboard folders can expand to
handle the bulk of documents you need. Pressboard folders are
ideal for files with longer active lives or heavy activity.
Pressboard stock comes in a variety of colors and is available in
3 types, allowing you to choose from the quality of a Type I
pressboard to the economy of a Type III pressboard.
|
Pressboard classification
folders allow information to be separated into as many as 6
categories within each file folder. They are ideal for documents
such as personnel files, case files, contracts, financial reports,
permanent files, case histories, etc.- any sort of documentation
that requires, or might benefit from, such categorization.
|
 |
For documents that are
frequently accessed or are in rigorous environments, consider
pressboard folders. For more moderate usage and environmental
conditions, manila or color folders work great!

If you need to store bulky
documents, manuals, or reports, our pockets can expand from 2 to 5
inches. Splitting documents into more than one folder is the only
way most file folders can accommodate 500 and 1000 page documents.
Expansion file pockets solve this problem.
|
Our expansion file pockets are
standard in 2, 4 and 5 inch sizes, allowing lengthy documents to
be stored intact in one sturdy folder. Expansion pockets are
perfect for situations such as the high volume of documentation
generated by the legal industry. No more folders straining to
contain huge documents!
|
Expansion pockets are constructed with
longevity and convenience in mind. Built with durable,
tear-resistant materials, they are enclosed on three sides to
prevent the loss of important documents. The full-cut end tabs
allow these high-capacity files to be color-coded and seamlessly
integrated with the other files in your filing system. Also
available are color-back expansion pockets to take your filing
system classification to another level!
|
 |
 |
Tab Product Company's
Canadian subsidiary, known as Datafile, developed a full-cut end
tab, rather than the undercut end-tab as is common in the
U.S.market. The longer end-tab provides additional room for
color-coding elements on the folder.
|
Datafile's standard folders
are a white color stock in 11pt or 14pt with mylar re-enforced
end-tabs. This makes for a very unique and long lasting end-tab
folder! The Datafile line also has pockets and pressboard folders,
so you can integrate a complete filing system.

When you desire to customize
your folders yourself, we offer a wide-range of custom folder
accessories allowing you to add them as needed. Choose from
self-adhesive fasteners, the popular convert-a-tabs, or a variety
of pressure sensitive pockets. You decide where and how your file
folder will be designed!
|
When navigating our roadways
and neighborhoods, we rely on street signs to help us find what we
are seeking. File guides are the street signs to a good filing
system. Guides help users quickly locate the areas they wish to
search, and then the color-coding leads them to the exact file
they are looking for.
|
 |
 |
Vinyl out guides provide additional
clarity to filing systems by indicating that particular records
have been removed and reside with someone within a business. The
convenient pocket of the out guide allows users to place important
papers or mail in the location the file will return too. Once
returned, the papers or mail can be properly placed in the file.
No handling important papers and mail over and over again waiting
for a particular file to return to the filing system.

With custom indexes, finding an item is
simple. Just look at the tab and you're there. No more pouring
through the entire stack in a thick folder. Custom indexes help
you sub-classify your documents inside the folder. Great for
healthcare patient records or insurance company claim
documentation. You choice what you want and how to say it, and
we'll create it for you.
|
 |
 |
Similar to custom indexes,
but each has it's own fastener. With filebacks and duotabs, you no
longer need to remove every document in the folder to get to the
bottom index.
Filebacks are secured in a folder by fasteners inside the folder.
Each fileback has a fastener and custom tab (at the side or
bottom) to allow you to sub-divide and fasten records inside the
folder like a classification folder. Duotabs act in a similar
manner, except they attach to the folder by adhesive on the top or
sides.

Color plays an important part in quickly
identifying, classifying and recognizing objects. Do we need to
ask you the colors of a traffic light? Or a can of Coke? Or Pepsi?
We don't need to read the words on these items; we know them by
the color image they represent in our mind. In this same sense,
filing systems are an ideal application to add color. That's why
we've made the use of color the basis behind our filing systems.
When we color-code the digits of a number, or the letters of a
name in a file system, we observe that groups of colors are faster
to "read" than groups of ordinary letters and numbers. Files in
sequence create blocks of color, making them easy to scan. The
color blocks immediately lead your eye to a concentrated search
area.
|
 |
Research shows that our
unique color-coding system actually improves productivity by up to
40%, helping you eliminate costly and time-consuming misfiles. We
can even design a colored system that will reduce searching for
"out of file" folders by 90%!!

For small systems,
hand-wrapping labels is a cost effective method. Self-adhesive
labels are available in box rolls and alpha-sheets allowing you to
choose the combination of color-coding labels to customize your
filing system.
We have all the commonly available color-coding systems in alpha,
numeric, year, month, and classification styles.
|
 |
To customize a folder, we have
several options of factory-applied labels to enhance the
effectiveness of your office. We can create any custom label in a
sequence or from your database. Our factory applies the label to
the folder you need and presto---you have pre-colored folders
ready to use right out of the box.
|
|
|
If you have a
highly customized indexing system that requires unique color-coded
labels with dynamic numeric or text fields, classification bars
and barcodes, then CompuColor is the answer. With CompuColor
individualized label design services, you have complete
flexibility to create your own indexing systems and have your
labels attached to the folder at the factory. |
If you're in a hurry for a standard label design with
sequential numeric coding and bar codes, choose FilePak strip
labels. We make ordering easy. Choose from a host of reliable
standard formats. Next, select any commonly used color-coding
scheme and tell us which number sequence you require. Finally,
choose your folder type. We will deliver finished folders ready
for use.

Tabquik labels are our
patented ink-jet labels designed for use exclusively with Tabquik
software. The labels are made of a coated-stock and absorb the ink
below the surface of the label to create a smudge proof
color-coded label.
Available in 5-up (5 labels per sheet) and 7-up (7 labels per
sheet), Tabquik labels are the answer to a complete and efficient
color-coded filing system!
